AoIP needs a delay less than a few milliseconds, while VoIP can tolerate over 100 milliseconds. AoIP is usually operating within a tightly controlled LAN, while VoIP often has to traverse WANs. AoIP is also pretty dissimilar to streaming audio/video. The latter is a one-way service that can withstand multiple seconds of delay, and its streams are generally transported over the uncontrolled public Internet.
